Social environments can be transformed through inclusive organizing and planning processes that stimulate interpersonal and community relationships and build attachments to civic and community spaces. i

Social capital, specifically bridging and linking capital, seem to be critical components of a community’s social environment, enabling people to be resilient in the face of disaster and leverage power for equitable change (Learn more about Social Capital). Processes that meaningfully engage, or are driven by, community in planning for changes to the built environment are associated with bridging and linking social capital. ii
